Breaking Free from Money Myths: How Ambitious Moms Can Align Income with Impact and Purpose
👉Despite getting the advice that I should work as few hours as possible, determine the minimum income and effort needed to survive, and find a job that just requires and provides that…
👉Despite the very real possibility that I’d actually have to work MORE and harder…
👉Despite lots of judgement about how more of my time should be given to my children…
👉Despite all that, I left a really good thing in pursuit of more. I set out on an incredibly challenging path that has tested me, nearly broke my spirit, and forced me to grow more times and ways than I can count. It’s brought MANY tears, and many struggles, for both me AND every member of my little family. It’s brought judgement and ridicule and LOTS and LOTS of sacrifice.
And I did all that, I took that on, because I wanted the opportunity to make more MONEY (among a few other things). In the 3 years following my decision to start pursing more money, and stop living by other people’s standards, I tripled my income.
Gawwwwww! I know! We’re NOT supposed to talk about money!
Sure, we need it like water to survive in this world, but we’re supposed to pretend we don’t need or want it, right? We’re not supposed to make decisions based on it. I guess we’re just supposed to support our husbands while they make it; isn’t that our role, when it comes to money? And then insert some bullshit about, “Money can’t buy happiness,” here (always said by someone with a true lack mindset, who thinks one is exclusive of the other).
If you don’t make the money, you can’t serve the mission...
-Brendon Burchard
Truth: I have alienated more than one loved one by talking about my financial ambitious, so, if you’re unwilling look or sound different, if you’re unwilling to speak and think different to achieve different results, if you're unwilling to live life outside the average, ignore this conversation, and just keep pretending you don’t care about money.
Here’s the bottom line: If you don’t make the money, you can’t use it to help you change the world in whatever way is meaningful to you.
Money provides all kinds of benefits, and one that's extremely important and relevant to The Ambitious Career Mom is: LEVERAGE. Without the financial resources to leverage your time, you will NOT be available to make the impact you want to make in this world. Let me put it really plainly:
Someone's got to take the time to scrub your toilets.
And do the dishes, mop the floors, get the groceries, etc. etc. etc. Either that someone is you, or that someone is someone you hire. And if it’s someone you hire, you’re going to need to pay them. With money.
Which, for its own right is amazing, because you’re then providing an opportunity for someone else. And then that someone else is providing YOU an opportunity to use your biggest gifts to make the impact you dream of making with your time and talent.
Life is not about money. BUT, it most assuredly IS about the things that money can bring you.
👉Money can bring you the opportunity to build a school or church.
👉Money can bring you the opportunity to feed one or one million hungry families.
👉Money can bring you more time with your babies.
👉Money can bring you more time with your husband, family, and loved ones.
👉Money can bring you the opportunity to change the freaking world with the gifts you've been given!
It’s OK to value making money, friend!
It's ok to say it, and believe it, and live it. Because if you don’t make the money you can’t serve the mission, whatever that mission is for you! And you can’t make the money if you won’t admit you want to, if you won't set your life up in a way that supports that goal.
Set your goals based on the impact you want to make in your one-and-ONLY life – NOT based on what’s normal, or accepted, or standard.
You’re allowed to be different.
