You Don’t Have to Choose: Balancing Career Ambitions and Being a Great Mom

Career moms model different behaviors and habits than their non-working-mom friends, that will serve their children greatly as they grow into adults. The great things your non-working-mom friends can do for their kids with their less-scheduled (and probably more available) time are wonderful gifts, but they’re not SUPERIOR gifts, they’re DIFFERENT gifts. 

Stop questioning your qualifications as a mom because you choose to organize your time and allocate your energy differently than some other moms. 

I’m talking to YOU, mom who is crying at daycare drop off.

I’m talking to YOU, mom who is watching the recital via FaceTime with a broken heart.

I’m talking to YOU, exhausted mom who just served chicken nuggets. Again.

I’m talking to YOU, mom who is feeling hot hate for herself because she forgot it was dress up day and can’t make time to run home and get new clothes.

I’m talking to YOU, overwhelmed mom who isn’t planning a decorated, strategized, cutesy birthday party.

I’m talking to YOU, apologetic mom who just refused the field trip parent responsibility. For the 10th time. 

Stop comparing yourself to women with vastly different gifts, goals, and dreams. Instead of worrying about what you’re NOT, focus your energy and attention on learning how to be the best YOU - the BEST mom version of YOU. 

If you EMBRACE ALL of what YOU are, you’ll be giving your kids the most amazing gifts in the process! Gifts that only YOU can, as the kind of mom YOU want to be. And you’ll be MODELING the kind of confidence and courage that only a woman willing to pursue her dreams can. That’s great parenting, friend. THAT’S a GREAT mom! 💙
